On any given day, a channel surfer can find a dramatic crime show. These crimes are usually mysterious and shocking, and only the smartest of detectives can solve them. It is important to remember that these shows are a figment of someone’s imagination — they didn’t really happen. However, a former Chicago area doctor has now been charged with murder in a case that has a feel of fiction and seems like it come be straight off the television.
While his current colleagues are shocked by the news of his arrest, saying he was always pleasant, got along with his patients and had no complaints filed against him, he had difficulty earning his license to practice medicine. He was fired from several residencies, slowing him from gaining the license that would allow him to practice medicine. Police claim that he killed four people out of revenge for his termination.
The first murders took place in 2008. The 11-year-old son and housekeeper of one of the doctors who fired him were stabbed by someone who broke into their home. The second set of murders occurred recently in May 2013. The other doctor involved and his wife were found murdered, shot and stabbed, respectively. Police officers took the accused doctor into custody in mid-July.
It is unclear what had lead authorities to suspect the former Chicago area doctor or what evidence they might have against him. It is shocking that a man who was described in such positive terms by his current colleagues would end up charged with murder. As in all cases, prosecutors will have to prove the man’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in order to secure his conviction.
