Man charged with murder in death of Chicago man

On Behalf of | May 28, 2014 | Violent Crimes |

There are many different personalities in the world. Many times, certain personality types simply do not work well together. Despite this, people are able to exist alongside one another without major incident. In fact, verbal arguments are common and may end with negative emotions, but occasionally end in violence. Unfortunately for one Chicago man, he has now been charged with murder after a man he allegedly had a verbal altercation with was stabbed.

Police responded to a call at an apartment complex one day in early May. When they arrived, they discovered that a 31-year-old man had been stabbed in his chest. Although he was transported to an area hospital, he ultimately died from the injuries he suffered in the incident. A 35-year-old man was charged with murder in the stabbing.

Police claim that the friction began between the two men several weeks earlier. They allegedly became embroiled in an argument at a party. The man is suspected of stabbing the victim it became apparent that they were at the same apartment complex at the same time.

It is unclear if there was a witness to the incident or what initially led police to the suspect. It would be easy to assume that the man is guilty due to the claims about the two men’s past history with one another, but there are thousands of heated verbal exchanges that do not end with a man being charged with murder. Prosecutors will have to prove the Chicago man’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, including that he was not simply at the wrong place at the wrong time. Until — and only if — prosecutors fulfill that extremely high burden of proof, he is presumed by the court to be innocent of the accusations.
