DUI charge for Chicago man suspected of injuring cops

All drivers can attest to the fact that visibility is reduced significantly at night. This alone could create a dangerous situation that could result in a serious injury. When there are cars stopped in or near the road at night, the chances of an accident increase. One man in Chicago now faces a DUI charge after he hit two vehicles late at night.

The accident occurred around midnight in early November. According to reports, a police car that was unmarked was taking part in a traffic stop. Another police vehicle was also on the scene. Police claim a 69-year-old driver of a sedan slammed into of one of the police cars, causing it to strike the second police car and a sports utility vehicle.

As a result of the collision, eight people, three in critical condition and four police officers, were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The driver of the sedan has since been taken into custody and faces several drunk driving charges. Additionally, he faces citations for traffic violations.

At this time, there are several unknowns related to the case. For example, it is unclear how it was determined that the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol or if the police vehicles had engaged their emergency lights. It would be difficult under any circumstances to determine that a car was stopped late at night. In order for Chicago prosecutors to get a guilty verdict for the DUI charge the man faces, they will have to convince a court that the man is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. While everyone wants drunk drivers to be held accountable, it is important to remember that everyone is considered innocent until proved guilty.
